With our guide we will visit Castel Gandolfo, a delightful town overlooking Lake Albano, for centuries the seat of the papal summer residence. Entrance to the Papal Palace and then we will continue to Ariccia with Piazza di Corte, Palazzo Chigi (external) and the Collegiate Church of Saint Mary.
What we will visit
It is possible to choose the excursion without transfers (meeting in Castel Gandolfo) or with transfer from Rome (pick up at the hotel in the center) or from Frascati train station.
The Palace was the holiday home of the popes, starting with Urban VIII who, immediately after his election as pontiff in 1623, began the construction of a building on the site of the Roman villa of the emperor Domitian.
Our journey will tell the story of the papacy from the seventeenth century to the Lateran Pacts, to the stay of John Paul II and Benedict XVI up to the transformation into a museum by Pope Francis.
Finally, we will stroll through the splendid gardens of the Park of the Ville Pontificie with the remains of the ancient Roman villa.
The majesty of the place and the natural beauty that surrounds it have made it a destination for the Grand Tour.
