Discover the villages of the Roman Castles between Lake Albano of Castel Gandolfo and Lake Nemi. A small group tour designed to get to know a territory rich in history, art and gastronomic traditions with a professional guide.
Possibility of arriving in Frascati by train and then moving to Albano Laziale with our transfer, there is also the alternative of being picked-up from Rome or of arriving with your own car, to be chosen when booking.
With the guide we will tell the story of this territory that legends say is the ancient Albalonga, the mythical city founded by Ascanio, son of Aeneas, quoted in the verses of Virgil.
We will visit the baroque Church of Santa Maria della Stella from which you can easily reach the Catacombs of San Salvatore (in use between the third and fourth centuries AD), the Romanesque churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria della Rotonda, the well-kept gardens of Villa Doria and in the upper part of the historic center, a III century amphitheater that once accommodated up to 1600 people.
After a walk through the shopping streets, transfer to Ariccia.
Later in the morning, we will continue to the ancient village of Nemi, the smallest town among the Roman Castles dating back to Roman times. Colorful, surrounded by nature and with a unique view of the lake of the same name, it offers noteworthy landscape views.
Return to Frascati (or Albano Laziale), end of tour
After the lunch break in Nemi it is possible to continue the tour with a visit to the Museum of Roman Ships.
