Walking tour of Terracina

This morning we will take a walk in Terracina, a town in the province of Latina, bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea. We will pass through the Emilian Forum, today’s Townhall Square, which still retains the original pavement and the sixteenth-century cathedral dedicated to San Cesareo.

The testimony of the passage of the Romans is still alive in the wonderful archaeological remains of the 1st century B.C. with the Theater that stood next to the Via Appia, also known as Regina Viarium, and the Temple of Jupiter, an incredible arched structure that surmounts the imposing Monte Sant ‘Angelo.

Afternoon at leisure for a walk in the shopping streets and to take advantage of the seaside resort.

Optional (not included): excursion to the Pontine Islands

In the afternoon it is possible to book a cruise on a tourist motorboat accompanied by an expert sailors-guides who will lead us in the visit to the Pontine islands Ponza and Palmarola. We will circumnavigation the island of Ponza, with some stops in the most beautiful and less touristy places, coffee on board included.

Transfer to Rome

• In the afternoon, transfer to Terracina station, where you will continue your journey by train to Rome Termini station.
• Arrive at the hotel, accommodation in Best Western Plus Universo 4 **** hotel or similar in the central city, well connected by metro, between Via Cavour and Termini Station, its position allows reaching the main attraction by walk.
  Dinner free (not included) and overnight stay.

Guided tour of the historical center of Rome

• Breakfast, meet with the guide for a morning in the center of Rome among Renaissance and Baroque works of art.

We will start from Piazza di Spagna with its “Barcaccia” fountain and the “Spanish Steps”. We will walk along the characteristic streets of the historic center until we reach the Trevi Fountain and arrive at the Pantheon, built in 27 BC. c. by Marco Vipsanio Agrippa.

We will continue the tour to Piazza Navona, a wonderful living room dominated by the Fountain of the Four Rivers, we will admire the works of Caravaggio in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi.

Guided tour of the Vatican Museums

• In the afternoon meet with the guide for the visit of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (skip-the-line ticket included).

In the Vatican museums a variety of works spanning the ancient and contemporary ages are collected. Sarcophagi and mosaics share the space with masterpieces by great masters such as Giotto, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael up to Dalì, Canova and Matisse. In the midst of so much beauty, the presence of a fragment of lunar rock donated to Vatican citizens by former US president Nixon continues to amaze.

The tour ends in the Sistine Chapel where it is possible to admire the famous frescoes of the representation of the Last Judgment.

Return to the hotel individually, overnight stay.

Optional (not included): evening excursion to Castel Sant’Angelo with the Passetto

• It is possible to end the day with a suggestive evening excursion to Castel Sant’Angelo with the Passetto.

We will enter Castel Sant’Angelo, a historic structure that, having changed its use several times, can be defined as a monument, archaeological area and museum. Do not miss the stop at the Passetto, a pedestrian passage that connects the site with the Vatican used in the past by the popes in case of danger.

Guided walking tour of Frascati

• Breakfast, check-out and transfer to Frascati. Meet with the guide for the tour.

We will stroll through the streets of one of the most renowned municipalities of the Roman Castles, famous for the various Tuscolan villas, once home to illustrious patrician families. The town is also known for the cathedral of St. Peter in neo-Renaissance baroque style and the church of Jesus “Gesù” built in the eighteenth century by the genius of Carlo Fontana.

Wine tour in a winery with lunch

• Move to a local winery.

We will visit an old farmhouse surrounded by nature, vineyards and olive groves. In this area vines have been cultivated since Roman times, it is possible to visit ancient caves where wine has been aged for millennia. We will talk about the techniques of working the vine and the winemaking processes.

• Time to taste the famous Frascati wine!

We will guide you through a tasting of three locally produced wines, including the famous white wine Frascati Superiore DOCG. To following lunch will be served, consisting of an appetizer and a first course of the Roman tradition.

Return to the hotel at the end of the tour, free dinner and overnight stay.

Optional (not included): walking tour of Nemi

After lunch it is possible to continue with an afternoon walk through the streets of the ancient village of Nemi, the smallest town among the Roman Castles dating back to Roman times. Colorful, surrounded by nature and with a unique view of the lake of the same name, it offers noteworthy landscape views.

Guided tour of Castel Gandolfo, Papal Palace and Ariccia

• Breakfast, meet with the guide and tour of the historic buildings.

Transfer to Castel Gandolfo, a delightful town overlooking Lake Albano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, known for the presence of the Papal Palace, the pope’s summer residence.

We will visit the ancient city center with the Papal Palace, the Pontifical Villas and the beautiful gardens. A journey that will tell us the history of the papacy from the seventeenth century to the Lateran Pacts, from the stay of John Paul II and Benedict XVI to the transformation into a museum by Pope Francis. This will be followed by a walk in the manicured gardens of the Parco delle Ville Pontificie with the remains of the ancient Roman villa.

At the end of the tour, we continue to Ariccia where we can admire the buildings overlooking piazza di Corte designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini together with the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Palazzo Chigi (outside) and the famous Ariccia bridge.

The majesty of the place and the natural beauty that surrounds it have made it the destination of the Grand Tour.

• Return to Frascati, lunch free (not included), afternoon at leisure for individual visits.
