There is a varied collection of artworks in the Vatican museums that span from ancient to contemporary times. Sarcophagi and mosaics share the space with masterpieces by great masters such as Giotto, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael to Dalì, Canova and Matisse.
The tour ends in the Sistine Chapel where it is possible to admire the famous frescoes of the representation of the Last Judgment. Before leaving the Vatican, you will visit St. Peter’s Basilica with Bernini’s Colonnade that frames the Dome designed by Michelangelo.
We will start from St. John in Lateran, dating back to the 4th century and continue with the visit to St Mary Major. Here we will admire the mosaic floor of the Cosma marble masters, as well as the bell tower in Renaissance Romanesque style.
The Catacombs of San Callisto are among the largest and most important in Rome.
Born around the middle of the second century A.D., they represent the cemetery complex of the Church of Rome. About half a million Christians were buried in them, including dozens of martyrs and sixteen popes.
