Upon arrival at the airport, our driver will greet you and escort you to your accommodation, a 4* hotel located in the heart of the city. After settling in, enjoy some free time to savor lunch and soak in the lively atmosphere of this vibrant city.
Embark on a guided tour to uncover Palermo’s treasures, from bustling markets and exquisite cuisine to stunning architecture. This tour is a journey through highlights and hidden gems, showcasing Sicily’s rich heritage. While in this article we’ll focus on iconic landmarks and their stories, this complete program offers much more to explore beyond the main features.
In Marsala, a guided tour of the historic center showcases Baroque architecture, charming streets, and the Cathedral of Saint Thomas of Canterbury, followed by a visit to a local winery for a Marsala wine tasting paired with lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to the salt pans, or “saline,” provides insight into the traditional art of sea salt harvesting, set against a backdrop of windmills and lagoons. This is followed by a boat trip to the island of Mozia, located in the Stagnone Lagoon, where visitors can explore the Whitaker Museum, dedicated to the Phoenician-Punic civilization and to preserve its historical and artistic heritage.
A funicular ride leads to the hilltop town of Erice, known for its narrow alleys, historic courtyards, and an impressive collection of churches.
Next, we visit the stunning Valle dei Templi, one of the best-preserved archaeological parks in Magna Graecia. Spanning 1,300 hectares, the park tells the millenary story of Akragas, a Greek colony founded in the 6th century BC, with its terraced levels, ancient aqueducts, and remarkable ruins.
We then continue to Piazza Armerina to explore the Villa Romana del Casale, a Roman villa renowned for its breathtaking mosaics. These intricate artworks vividly depict daily life, mythology, and grand hunting scenes, showcasing the splendor of the Roman Empire.
Our adventure continues in Ragusa, a true jewel of Sicilian baroque. In Ragusa Ibla, we’ll explore its remarkable sites aboard a Baroque train, visiting Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Arezzo di Donna Fugata, Chiesa di San Giorgio, and the beautiful Iblei Gardens.
From there, we head to Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its stunning baroque architecture. After lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll visit the Cathedral of St. Nicolò and the ornate Palazzo Nicolaci, showcasing the grandeur of Sicilian baroque design.
Our day concludes on Ortigia Island in Syracuse, a historic gem filled with Greek temples, baroque palaces like Beneventano del Bosco, and the Arethusa Fountain.
Discover the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. This group of seven islands offers stunning landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and active volcanoes.
Start with Lipari, the largest island, where you’ll admire the iconic Faraglioni and stroll through charming streets like Vittorio Emanuele and Via Garibaldi, soaking up the authentic Aeolian vibe.
Then, visit Vulcano, home to the group’s second active volcano. A guided bus tour will take you to the “Gran Cratere della Fossa” for breathtaking views, along with Vulcanello, the West Coast’s “Grotta del Cavallo,” and the lion-shaped mountain. After this memorable experience, return to the mainland for a relaxing evening.
Finally, Catania offers a rich tapestry of history and culture, with highlights including the Ursino Castle and the Cathedral of St. Agata, located in the vibrant Piazza Duomo. Did you know that the striking volcanic rock formations of Aci Trezza, known as the legendary “Faraglioni,” are linked to Homer’s Odyssey? We’ll delve into this fascinating connection during the tour, uncovering the stories behind this fishing village. Aci Castello, with its historic Norman castle perched on lava rock, provides stunning coastal views. This final day encapsulates the essence of Sicily, leaving you with unforgettable memories before your journey home.
