A tour of Frascati, one of the most renowned towns of the Roman Castles, famous for the various Tuscolan villas, once home to illustrious patrician families.

The town is also often remembered for the Neo-Renaissance Baroque Cathedral of Saint Peter and the church of Gesù built in the eighteenth century by the genius of Carlo Fontana.

Visit to Villa Mondragone

• Visit to Villa Mondragone, the largest of the Tuscolan villas.

Building started in 1573 by Cardinal Altemps, Mondragone lives its period of maximum expansion between the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque. It was the summer residence of the popes until 1626 when the new Pope Urban VIII moved it to Castel Gandolfo.

Visit of the interiors, including the wonderful Hall of the Svizzeri, the splendid Garden of the Girandola, the majestic Portico del Vasanzio and the Theatre of the Acque.

• Villa Aldobrandini (exterior)

The Villa situated in the Roman Castles dominates all of Rome. The centuries-old villa stands on a panoramic hill overlooking the entrance to the town and has seen powerful families often linked to the papacy within its walls.

Lunch in Villa Grazioli and visit of Grottaferrata

• Lunch at Villa Grazioli

The Villa has been transformed into a 5-star hotel with the prestigious Grazioli Art Bistrot restaurant. In the summer, you can have lunch outside on the exclusive terrace overlooking Rome.

Villa Grazioli is an ancient cardinal’s villa located in a panoramic position on the Tusculum hill. We will visit the interior with the splendid frescoed rooms and the wonderful gardens overlooking Rome. The Villa is surrounded by a large centuries-old park, where guests can relax in contact with nature, in a context of peace and silence, away from the chaos of the city.

• Take a stroll through Grottaferrata, an elegant town in the Roman castles
• Visit of the Greek Abbey of San Nilo

The Abbey was founded in 1004 and is currently the last of the Byzantine rite monasteries in Italy.

Built on the foundations of an important Roman villa, it incorporates the so-called Grotta Ferrata (cryptaferrata): a sepulchral cell presumed to be the tomb of Tulliola, daughter of Cicero. Along the way you can admire the Farnese Chapel with frescoes by Domenichino and the icon of Mary with Child by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Return to Frascati and end of the tour.
